Weather in March

March signals the onset of spring in Western Sahara and is marked by a gradual increase in temperature. Daytime temperatures typically lie between 27°C (80.6°F) to 29°C (84.2°F), which are noticeably warmer than those in February. However, the nights remain moderately cool, with temperatures generally dropping to between 15°C (59°F) to 17°C (62.6°F), providing a comfortable balance to the increasing daytime heat.

As it is throughout the year, March in Western Sahara is extremely dry, with the region recording less than 10mm (0.39") of average rainfall. The desert's aridity is maintained, and the clear, sunny skies provide plenty of sunlight during the day.

In the coastal city of Dakhla, March temperatures are slightly moderated due to the Atlantic Ocean's influence. Average high temperatures are around 27°C (80.6°F), while average low temperatures are about 16°C (60.8°F). The slight humidity brought about by the ocean can often result in morning fog, giving a short-lived respite from the desert's aridity.

In comparison to April, the subsequent month, March's weather is cooler. April sees a further rise in temperatures, with average daytime temperatures ranging between 29°C (84.2°F) to 31°C (87.8°F). February, the preceding month, experiences significantly cooler daytime temperatures, ranging from 24°C (75.2°F) to 26°C (78.8°F).

March also sees a notable increase in wind speed, ranging between 22 to 28km/h (17.4mph). This uptick in wind velocity may give rise to occasional dust storms, particularly in regions with loose, sandy soil. The increasing temperatures and wind speeds are indicative of the transition from winter to the warmer spring season.
