Weather in August

August represents the final month of winter in Zimbabwe, with conditions starting to transition towards the warmer spring season. The weather during this period is characterized by slightly warmer daytime temperatures, although nights remain fairly cold. Rainfall continues to be virtually non-existent, signifying the ongoing dry season.

Average temperatures in August range from 15°C (59°F) to 25°C (77°F) during the day. Lower altitude areas such as the Zambezi Valley and the southeastern Lowveld can experience temperatures peaking at 30°C (86°F). Despite the increase in daytime temperatures, the nights can still be quite cold, often dropping to 5°C (41°F), especially in southern and highland regions.

In the highland areas, including Harare, daytime temperatures average between 20°C (68°F) and 25°C (77°F), indicating the onset of warmer weather. Nighttime temperatures, although slightly higher than in July, can still fall to 5°C (41°F).

The city of Victoria Falls, located in the west, experiences warmer daytime temperatures from 25°C (77°F) to 30°C (86°F) due to its position at a lower altitude. However, nights can still be quite cool, often falling to 10°C (50°F), making for a considerable temperature difference between day and night.

As with previous months, rainfall in August is almost negligible, with the average precipitation across the country typically under 5mm (0.2"). This continued lack of rainfall keeps the landscape arid and skies clear, offering optimal conditions for wildlife viewing.
